Lava Rocks goat dairy - July 2009
A volunteer service project to help Lava Rocks catch up on badly needed roof maintenance
This was our first ever Puna Small Farm Initiative event, in late July at Lava Rocks Goat Dairy in Hawaiian Acres
About seven community volunteers and the extended farm family:
- Repared the dairy roof and barn roof for painting.
- Applied rust stop, primer and paint (from rust to RED!).
- Prepared for and planted banana plants for goat fodder around the pasture.
We had fun, got a lot done, met new friends and know that we made a difference for one small farm family who truely experienced community support.
This first event was successful mainly due to Guy Nicholson, owner of Magic Brush Painting and a very generous man. He gave of his time and expertise on the painting of the 2 roofs and he also let us use his power washer, paint sprayer and even donated some of the paint! Please return the favor and recommend Magic Brush Painting (938-2399) to your friends on the West side of the island.
Thanks to all the Lava Rock Project Volunteers and donors!
You can volunteer for our next event at Milk & Honey Farm in Pahoa (date to be announced).
