Puna Small Farm Initiative offers small local farmers, the backbone of our local food supply, an occasional day of volunteer help for deferred maintenance or small expansion plans.
Our first event will be on Thursday, July 30 and Friday, July 31 (weather permitting) at Lava Rocks Goat Dairy in Hawaiian Acres. We will prep and paint the dairy roof and barn, and perhaps do some clearing in preparation to plant some goat food-type plants for feed self-sufficiency. There may also be some other small jobs.
All help is greatly appreciated. We especially need 2 people who can power spray the area to be painted on Thursday (July 30) and 2 who can operate a commercial paint sprayer for the primer and final coat on Friday (July 31). We continue to look for donations of paint or money to buy paint, and still need planting material for the goat feed.
Call Geoff at the KYFA, 936-7040 for time of event and more information.
There will be other dates planned for the future.
Mahalo,
P.S. We also need to borrow a couple of long ladders and could use 2 hours of a D3 tractor (if you happen to have one in your garage).
Paint needs:
8 gallons rust stop
15 Gallons of primer (preferably Zinsser cover stain primer)
15 gallons of finish paint (preferably Benjamin Moore Direct to Metal) or any exterior good pain.
Or donations to purchase paint.
Plant Needs:
Starts of; Jackfruit, breadnut, bananas, (goat fodder type of plants).
